Question

My husband just brought an adult bird home that seems to have a broken leg and is bleeding from it. we would like to try to help it if we can before calling a clinic for fear that they probably just put it down. is there anything we can do?

Answer

Don't worry, they won't put it down. A broken leg is very treatable in a bird. It's wrapped in special tape that a bird can't pull off so that it will heal. It's important to have a vet do it so that it's not put on too tight, and it's set correctly. An exotic or avian vet would be best if you know of one near by. If you don't, let me know and I can give you some links to check to find one in your area.
