Question

I just read an answer by Jim Hyland sent

I just read an answer by Jim Hyland sent in by a lady concerned about needles falling from her Norway Spruce. She mentioned that a friend in Ontario had a similar problem. I do not know this lady but do live in Ontario (Ottawa) and am very concerned about my six Norway spruce that are between 85 and 120 feet tall. In February which was a relatively mild one for Ottawa there was a sudden (over one week) dropping of the terminal eight to ten inches of the outer branches. The branches appeared normal, green and I could not identify any evidence of fungi or insect damage. Is this a normal phenomena? I have not seen this in past winters. Some of the top branches are completely denuded and appear dead. Is there anything to do to prevent further damage?
