Reply to Stephen's Post: keys have to be held for the count of one-and two-and before they register on the screen - when I try to type any faster they don't show up at all

You need to re-install the keyboard drivers, or at the very least verify that they are working correctly.
If this is a USB keyboard then the problem might be with the USB slot. Trying plugging the keyboard into a different USB slot.
