The united states does not charge inheritance tax, even if it is from another country. However, some states charge inheritance tax.
What country is the inheritance from. A few countries will heavily tax the inheritance in order to move it out of the country. In some cases, it is taxed twice, once as an inheritance, and another time to transport or transfer the inheritance out of the country. The combined rates can be as high as 55 to 75%.
