Prometrium is primarily prescribed for postmenopausal women who a re taking estrogen (hormone replacement therapy);
it prevents a buildup of the lining of the uterus and abnormal bleeding. Prometrium also may be prescribed to restore menstruation if your menstrual periods have stopped.
