Question

I have a 1989 jeep cherokee that idles real high. Cannot find out why. It has a 4.0 and I dont think it has a check engine light . IS this possible? How would I get the codes?

check the iac motor (idle air control). this is licated on the throttle body it is a electric motor that steps in an armature and alows air to come thru at idle. we see a lot go out and a lot build up with carbon. also check for exhaust leaks at manifold. in some years the intake manifold bolts would loosen and cause a vacuum leak there. try spraying brake clean on intake. be careful not to spray on or around hot exhaust.
