Question

what if the fleas have invaded a human host and have not left but stayed and are multiplying? How do you rid yourself of the infestation?

You need to treat the fleas at the source. Swing by your vet's office and pick up 2 things. Get some frontline and get a dose of capstar. Use both at the same time. This will kill all the fleas on your cat and will kill any flea that jumps on the cat. Wash all the bedding (even yours) with hot water. Clean the couch cushions and vacuum the floor. Throw the vacuum bag away. Then spray for fleas. You can get a professional to do this or you can use OTC foggers. Then repeat the spray again in 2 weeks, after the eggs hatch out.

Treating the cat is going to do the most for you.
