what is the difference between the zoom sizes of binoculars

i have two different binocluars and they both have different zoom ie 122m/1000m 8x21 dcf field 7. The other one says 8x-17x25 3.1at 17x. I would like a binocluars that give me a good viewing at very long distance so which one of these are best?
