Question

Putrid water smell

Sent to General Experts August 07, 2004 4:45 p.m.

We have a private water well and a septic tank(pumped 3 days ago). About a week and a half ago suddenly out of the blue our inside the house water smells putrid, not like rotten eggs WORSE...like a sewer. There is no visible sediment in the water, appears clear. We have never had bad smelling water before? The hydrant in the yard for watering the lawn has no smell at all? In our yard there is a hydrant with a valve to close off water to the house to water lawn. So apparently the house receives the same water as the hydrant if we have to close it off. And since that water has no smell but the house does something has to be amuck between the hydrant and the house? I think? About a month ago my husband used the yard hose to blast a grease/laundry soap clog from the outside clean out that really stunk. We are at a loss and would really like a response ASAP. Thank you.
