Question
When my parents died I kept their house in my name, but the house really belongs to my sister. She and her family live their. Now she wants to sell it for marital reasons. (Too long to discuss) I think she is making a mistake and I don't want her to sale b/c she will end up with nothing after her husband gets hold of the money. My question is, do I have to sign the papers to sell it or can I refuse? My husband and I are also paying the property taxes on the house.

Answer
I have to make some assumptions.
I assume that your parents deeded the house to you before they died. I also assume you have allowed your sister to live there rent free; and that she is not buying it from you on contract.
If I have analyzed the situation correctly, the house is clearly yours. The fact that you pay the property tax makes your claim even stronger.
Your sister's (and her husband's) interest is closest to a month to month lease. You continue to own the property; and you can decide to let your sister continue living there.
