Home Theather Projector
Sent to General Experts February 11 11:26 PM

I am configuring my Media Room in an unfinished basement. There will be only one window, so the room will be pretty dark. I plan to purchase a DLP/HD projector. Questions:

The projector will be mounted in the ceiling. The wiring for the projector is currently positioned at 16-17 ft from the viewing wall. Is this an accurate distance? If not how far should I position the projector from the wall?

Based on you recommendation on positioning, how many lumens should the projector be?

How much can I expect to pay for the projector based on your lumen recommendation?

Thanks

Rob Wilson.

16-17 ft should be good for most projectors. The 'throw' and projection width is adjustable and is given for most units if you can find the specs. You should be less concerned with lumen output (most are in the 1000-1200 lumen ANSI range) and more with native resolution.

It won't be long before 1080p is the norm. If I was shopping for a projector right now, that would be my primary goal. 1080 progressive on a 100-130 inch screen will literally knock you socks off.

A good reference and resource is www.hometheaterspot.com I have been a member there for 6 years. You can find a lot of good info and they have a projector forum.

I hope that helps you out. Unless you need additional info, please click ACCEPT to close our question/answer session. Bonuses are great and feedback would be appreciated too. I'll leave some for you. Thanks

Relist: I still need help.
I need clarification on what 1080p means and also what can I expect to pay for a projector based on the lumens the expert suggested, the 1080p, and the recommended distance I am currently at.

thanks

Steven,

Clarification,
when you say 1080p, what exactly are you referring too? Also, how much should I expect to pay for a projector with 3 dlp chips, 1080p, and recommended distance of 16-17 ft. As I move further away, from the viewing wall, will the quality of my picture be impacted from say 10ft- 12 ft versus 16ft-17ft.

thanks,

RW
