Spider plants are best grown in containers and hanging baskets where their shoots and tiny baby spider plants can hang down.
You can actually kill a spider plant by giving a small plant a big pot. Spider plants want to have little room in their pot, and a small pot for a small plant is perfect. Spider plants can be repotted at any season but do not need to be repotted very often - only when the roots start to creep out of the pot. Wait at least four to six months before feeding newly potted spider plants.
You can start new plants at any season from the plantlets. Spider plants will send out shoots or stalks. At the end of these stalks will be tiny baby plants. Remove these baby spider plants and place the roots in water. After the roots have reached an inch or more, transplant them (separately) into a container with rich, well drained potting soil (make sure that the soil drains well as they do not like wet soil). If you have all the spider plants you need, remove the runners and your mother plant with grow larger much faster.
