hoe to get set in grease stains out of garmet

I have a grease stain on a nice cotton shirt, I want to get out, I took shirt off and sspray stain remover left it for a day or so then I washed it and dry it but the stain did not come out then I rubbed lundry detergent in stain soaked the garmet and wash it and dry it but stain still there.
