Question

i purchased a mitsubishi projection tv in i moved in

Sent to General Experts December 19, 2005 9:14 p.m.

I purchased a 53", Mitsubishi projection TV in 2001. I moved in May and the TV was automatically turning off. This happened for a month and the picture became blurry. There is a red shadow on all picture and words. This makes it hard to view the television. Can you please tell me what may be causing this. Thank you.

Yes. You need to do a convergeance. This is actually something that anyone with a projection TV should do at least monthly. All it means is that the red green and blue tubes are not aligned.'

On the Mits TVs, grab the remote and hit 'Menu'. Then go to Advanced and then Convergeance. You really need to do an advanced comvergeance - I think you hit 'Audio' to do this but the instructions will be on the screen.

Let me know if you need further help.

I did this but it's still blurry. There are blue and red horizontal curved lines running across the screen. Should these line up too?

Yes. The green remains fixed and you line up the red and blue. Have you done the convergeance for the red and blue guns?

With the Mits you can select advanced convergeance so you get the grid. If I remember correctly, you can select every other point on the grid and converge a that point.

Is this what you have done?

You should be able to converge the points vertically and horizontally. Are you trying that.

If the lines are too far apart to converge you will need to get into the configuration menu that is normally only accessible by TV techs. I know how to do it on my Mits 55807 but I would warn you that one wrong key entry can permanently disable your TV.

I would suggest that you purchase a service manual. I don't know your model but you should be able to get a service manual online. Once in to the config menu, you can adjust every aspect of your TV's screen geometry.

The horizonatal lines are too far apart and I think I would need a tech. Can you estimate how much a tech would charge to do something like this?

You truly have been helpful. I will release the funds.
