Question

My smoke ringed persian is having trouble urinating. My wife believes he may be passing blood in his urine. What is the most common cause?

Answer

It could be several things. The first is he may have a urinary tract infection. This is normally cured with antibiotics. It could be a lot more serious though. He could have bladder stones and he could be partially obstructed. This can lead to full obstruction which will make him toxic and can kill him if not treated soon enough. If he is still able to urinate then waiting until the morning should be ok. If he is straining and not producing any urine then you need to seek a veterinary ER tonight.
