It is best, so as not to raise any red flags, to maintain consistency in applications. So, if you originally applied with one name for each of you, stay with that name on the renewal applications. There is a portion of the applcation that asks for other names by which you and your son go, and be truthful in those sections, however, for the application name itself, be consistent with the previous application so as not to add confusion to the process.
