Question
I had an one night stand in a hotel. I just found out that the guy recorded my voice during the time. What should I do to protect myself? I am in California. Thanks!

Answer
California requires the consent of both parties, for a recording. Since he lacked your consent, the recording is illegal. You would need to sue him for the return of the recording and an order by the court that he destroys any copies. You also can file a police report and see if the police will get involved.

I have no intention to sue him at this time point. But I would like to know what I should do now to prepare for a future possibility that he will use the recording to threaten me and such. Please advice me. Thanks!
Accepted Answer
If he uses it to threaten you or blackmail you, call the police immediately and report this. His actions are illegal and the recording was done without your consent.
