Question

I am having this issue with my 06' Trailblazer and my remote starter everytime I use the remote starter and I go to get in my truck there is the strong odor of gas I have taken it back to the place where it was installed and they told me I couldhave a gas leak in my fuel line, what could be going on with this and why is it happening, I do not smell gas when I start the truck manually, so I am not sure why it does this and I do not want to pay a ton of money just for the dealership to have a look and find out what is going on. I hope you can help me out with this issue. Thanks Gisele

Info Request

Welcome. When you start with the remote starter, does the heater fan turn on?

Yes everything works properly even the back window defroster is working, there is just really strong odor of gas when I start it with the remote starter.

Answer

OK, I have to agree with the fuel leak part. What is likely happening is because the truck is stationary when in remote start for a time, the leak allows the fumes to collect, but when you start it manually, you start moving soon and the fumes cannot collect. I suggest you start by looking at all the fuel lines back to the tank from the engine. This may also require an Emission test with a smoke machine.

so if they do find a leak are they going to have to replace all the fuel line and will this cost a lot and what will happen if I don't get this done ASAP, It has been happening for about 1 year or so and does the dealership have to do it or how do I check it myself?

Accepted Answer

If there is a leak int he fuel line, then the whole line or what ever part will need to be replaced.

Because of the danger of raw fuel in vapor form, I don't recommend you wait any longer. All you need to do to find this is start looking. The line goes from the engine down the drivers side, along the inside of the left frame rail and to the fuel tank.
