Question

My ex husband never paid me my 25,000.00 1 time fee and still owes 30,000.00 in unpaid alimony. We had 2 minor children at the time and he owned his own business and claimed low income for tax puposes. Now he also is drawing a SS check. Is there anything I can do to get what he owes me? I live in Florida He is in Tennessee. I am not being petty. He was a former pro ball player and drives a new Jaguar convertable. As revenge, knowing I had not enough income to sue him. There were several other divorce decrees he didn't meet such as carrying Health insurance on me. The divorce was in 2001.

Hi there:

you have many tools available. You can have his SS garnished, you can have his Jaguar seized, you can have his bank accounts frozen, you can have his drivers' license suspended, you can have his passport suspended... lots of things. You may want to visit your local courthouse for the forms to get this started, but an attorney would be able to get this done with the least amount of problem. Call your courthouse ahead of time to check, but most counties will also have services available to help with family law matters. Once you get the ball rolling and get some of your money back, I would also suggest that you get an attorney to prosecute him for contempt of court.
