Question

We have a stray cat with 4 kittens about 8 weeks old. We took them to the vet for an exam and they said it felt like the mommy cat was pregnant again. They said her stomach felt very full. My 16 year old son thought he felt movement in her belly. What should I do? If she is pregnant how do I know how far along? Will she survive the birthing? We have her and the kittens in a cage and are adopting them out. One went today. Any advice would be great. The vet seemed to think she was a house cat that someone threw away when they found her pregnant.

We had the mommy tested for leukemia and FIV she was negative. We have her in a separate room of the house from our own cats. If she does have anything can they get it if she is kept away from them?

Accepted Answer

Hi there,

May God bless youu for taking her in.

If she was outdoors, it is very possible she is pregnant again. Cats can go back in heat when the babies are only two weeks old.

If you feel motion she is at least three weeks along soo it is too late to termiinate the pregnancy

Yes it is safe for her to have another litter so soon but all the babies may not survive.

Since she is negative for FELV and F IV your cats cannot get anything from her.

I would let her give birth, keep her in and have her spayed when her litter is five weeks old.

Please let me know how things are going.

Warmest best wishes,

Terri
