Question

I own a Dell Dimension 8300 and would like to upgrade the OS to Windows 7. However, when I run Microsoft's "system compatibility" check, it tells me my current graphics card (ATI Radeon 9800) will not support Windows 7 Aero windows. What would be a GOOD graphics card to install that would provide that capability and be compatible with both the 8300 and Windows 7? I have been told that the ATI Radeon 4550 is a possibility.

Hi XXXXXXX.

Thank you for asking your question on JustAnswer.

I checked your product specifications.

Presently the ATI Radeon 9800 you ahve got is installed in the AGP slot.

Now ATI Radeon 4550 will support aero and is a good graphics card but it is a PCI express card and your motherboard doesn't have PCI express slot.

IT has got an AGP slot and simple PCI slot.

So you need a good AGP card.

Go for this one :-
Less power, heat, and noise, and good performance= 7600gs 512mb (is windows 7 compatible).
But it gonna cost ya. 80$

p.s:
IF i were you i would first install win 7 then check performance of ATI Radeon 9800 and then go for new card.
