Question

I am buying a dog from a breeder in Tulsa, OK. I live in Charlotte, NC. Do you think it causes too much stress on a little puppy to fly by itself? There are no direct flights, so it will be a long day for the little guy. Should I fly to get him instead?

Answer

Hi XXXXXXXXXXXX~

There are a couple schools of thought on the subject of flying puppies.

The first is that a puppy that young might be traumatized by being in a crate, inside a noisy plane for so long by himself. In addition, it's not like the flight attendants are going to care when he urinates and defecates in the crate, so the possibility of him being a messy, sad pup when he arrives is pretty high.

The other is that a pup does fine flying by themselves, with them making the same mess they'd make if they were in a crate on the ground that long.

Personally, I've never flown a puppy by itself. I always feel better flying with the little one so that they don't have to be in the cargo hold, and can be in the plane with me...however, the choice is up to you.

I hope this helps.

That's exactly what I needed to hear!! I feel the same way. The breeder was trying to make me feel better about the puppy flying alone.

Thanks so much!!!
