Hi,

It's possible that your cat has a fever, so if you can check her temperature with a rectal thermometer, normal for felines is between 100.5 and 102.5. Cats will lay in the litterbox because the litter feels cool on their body.

If she was just spayed today, her incision needs to be kept clean and if it's not covered at all, you need to remove her from the litterbox and make sure her incision does not have any tiny particles of litter stuck to it/in it or this will cause infection.

If she is coughing, she might have picked up a virus or bacterial infection at the vet's office, which is not uncommon, and you should report these new symptoms to her vet.

For the moment, keep her in a safe, cozy place like her cat bed or a laundry basket or shallow cardboard box layered with old fluffy towels, and make sure she's eating, drinking and eliminating as usual. If she has a temperature of 103 or over, she needs to be seen by an ER vet, now, if it's after hours for your regular vet.

I hope all will be well with your furry girl.
