Question

I am driving August 2006 2.2 Diesel Santa Fe with 90,000Km's on it. It started making a knocking noise the other day and I am being that told that it is the Fly Wheel....is this a big problem....I am just out of warranty since August so not looking forward to hearing if this will be expensive

Hello and Welcome to justanswer...

This is very likely the problem - they use whats called a DMF ( Dual mass flywheel ) and will give knocking noises when they are failing..

Its not cheap Im afraid - The part in itself, the DMF is the most expensive and you will need to replace the clutch assembly as well while having this job done.. so that adds to the costs overall.

I can't give you exact prices because the vary so much around the country..

I would strongly suggest you ring around several smaller garages - all of which should be quite capable of doing this job - it doesn't need a dealer....and get several quotes...

That will be much cheaper than dealer prices too - and you can opt for the best price...

I Sincerely hope I have helped you - Please ask me if you need more help...

Kind Rgds, MIKE

Thanks Mike,

last question, how long can I drive with it like this whilst trying to price best deal?

Would I be doing any other damage to engine whilst driving around? Noise comes and goes and faster I go it seems to go away.

Rgds

Answer

Hello again Alan... thank you for your reply..

You can drive it - its not going to cause any other problems or cause any damage to anything that isn't going to already need replacing...so you needn't worry there..

Its hard to say how long it will last Alan to be honest - it may last a fair while or just a few days... it will lose drive altogether when it does actually fail...

I hope that helps you further..

Best Rgds.. MIKE...
