Question

Good Day,My daughter has Grand Cherokee Jeep Overland 2.7 crd Diesel.Has alot of trouble starting.Wont get up in the morning, but by the time it gets to the main dealar on a flat bed it starts ok? So far its had a new fuel pump, fuel lines and restrictor, injectors have been checked ok apart from one which was repaired because it was giving to much fuel, glow plugs are said to be ok, dont know if filter has been changed. got it back yesterday and its starting but its taking its time, and she thinks its very hesitent. She has parted with £1000 so far. The Main Dealar in Maidstone Kent so far is unable to pin point the fault and I feel they are just gessing. Please help any idears. Oh yes the car has not let her down once running, it will go all day.

Info Request

Hello and Welcome to justanswer..

Can I just ask you please - whats the mileage on the vehicle - and other than what you have said, whats its service / recent repair history??

Do you ever have any warning lights on the dash?

Im assuming they have done proper diagnostic tests - do you know exactly what tests have been carried out - and what the results were...? fault codes etc ?

Plus any other info you may be able to give me , that will help me to help you ....

Best Rgds - MIKE.......................

Hi Mike, Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry I did not reply last night but was unable to get a connection on the net. Ok it has 66.000 miles on the clock and apart from the normal hic-ups like, pads, discs etc it has a good service history. There are no visible warning lights on,or buzzers on. The vehicle has been on a diagnostic machine each time and they even came out and tested it on her drive when it failed to start a few weeks back, but they have not shared the codes or information with her.

This morning 7thNov 09 it has again failed to start, and as I type on its way back by tow truck to the main dealer!!!

I have some additional information Mike, Dealer is going to strip down each injector! Did not think they were made that way but only as a throw away item? Also been told that no fault codes have come up relating to this problem. Regards Paul.

Hi again Paul.... Thank you for your reply /s.. Thats ok dont worry about that at all.. but I will always get your replies..and will always get back to you as soon as I can thereafter...

Okay so ,the troubles continue ! Given the info you have imparted to me - and not knowing fully what they have done up to now - other than finding out what they have come up with to this point ..( though that may be a little irrelevant now anyway as it still won't go ) ... then that is what I would have suggested as a next move...inspecting the fuel system anyway.... not so much stripping injectors (!)... but having fuel system pressure tests done - leak tests ( for air ) and injector tests ( on a proper test machine ) as needed...

Im sure from what you have said, that the problem is fuel system related - and I think its going to be that its sucking air through porous pipes , seals or pump problems...

Dealers are not always that good at finding such faults - though obviously I can't tar them all - yours may be just fine... but given these situations - I often advise customers to have their vehicle checked over - as above - by a local diesel specialist.... They are more au fait with the intricacies of the systems whereas dealers tend to "plug in and throw away" ...which can get costly..

Anyway - see how they get on...and let me know. And of course, bear in mind what I have said -- you may well need to use the information if they get no where with it.....

Best Rgds to you Paul....

MIKE....
