Hello,
Welcome to Just Answer and thanks for your question. Obviously something is not working as it should. However, it requires an examination to determine why your periods are so erratic. Some possibilities are uterine fibroids (not as likely at your age), ovarian cysts or polycystic ovary syndrome, infection, thyroid or pituitary gland problem, and many more. A gynecologist is the specialist to see. If you are filling a pad or tampon every hour for 5-6 hours you need to go to the ER since this isn't a period but hemorrhaging.

Am i in danger from my period problem, or is it something that could possibly go away? I have never been to a doctor about this, and I really don't want to. Is there anything I can do myself to help myself?
In order to help or treat something you have to know what it is you are trying to treat. The only way to find out what the problem is would be to see a medical provider. Every woman needs to see a provider at least yearly if she is sexually active.
Heavy loss of blood leads to anemia and that can be serious. If it is an infection, that can lead to infertility. Any period that lasts longer than 10 days requires investigating.
