You mean it will not reconigze the internal hard drive? Or are you trying to load windows from a external source? How are you trying to load windows?

Boot and nuked hard drive. Then replaced hard drive for more memory for music. Went to reload windows and it says it can't find external hard drive. When you go into bios it is showing it is recognizing it being there and powrd up. We r lost. Even tried reformatting new hard drive and gets to anitializing and locks up

How did you fry the last hard drive? And can you be more specific on how you are trying to load the Windows Operating System? Are you loading it from a disk or a external hard drive?

I was told by best buy computer tech hard drive was fried so I bought a new one and installed. Trying to reload from windows operating disk. But when I insert disk it only go so far through the operating setup and tells me it can't find external hard drive. It recognizing internal hard drive in bios but not loadind XP onto hard drive.

Accepted Answer

I am confised as to why it would be giving you a error that it can not find the external hard drive when you are using a Boot disk from your cd drive and loading onto a internal hard drive. My uess is you are trying to load windows on to a SATA drive vs a IDE drive and you need to install the SATA drivers first before you can install windows.

Replaced sata drive with sata drive and tried to load drivers but everything does the same thing. I think I'm just going to take it in if I can't figure the stupid thing out

Posted by Jerry 16 days and 22 hours ago.

Answer

You need to load the SATA drivers when you first load Windows so that it will be able to recgonize the drive as it is loading windows. If you don't, as you have already noticed, the windows installation will not complete properly.

What kind of commputer are you using, is this a HP or did you say it was a Gateway? With some models there is a option in the BIOS you can switch to get the computer to load so you can install the SATA drivers after you load windows then ocne you have loaded windows you install the proper drivers and then turn the switch back.
