Question

My cat for the most part has stopped eating. And as such, has not been pooping. She is 14 years old. Last week I took her to the vet, blood work was done along with x-rays. X-ray showed nothing abnormal--- some feces were in the colon. Blood work results came back for the most part normal. Glucouse levels were elevated (well over 200). He stated that this was probably a result of my cat being so upset (3 people needed in the room to take blood fom her---she was not a good patient, making horrible screaming noises, they had to sedate her to draw blood). He gave me some laxatone for her. She has had two bowel movements in the last week. They have been very small amounts. She has been drinking some water--and pees once a day. She used to pee at least 2-3 times a day and poop once a day. I have put some mineral oil on her dry food, but she won't eat it. I have also tried wet foods, but she is not interested. Any suggestions? I can't keep bringing her back to the vet-$457 charg

Thank you for your post!

Aside from the mild elevation in glucose, were there any other abnormalities?

Any x-rays or other tests done?

He said that there was one other thing that was out of range, i think that it may have been the white blood cells---but he said it was right outside the range not anything really alarming---he said that it could eventually lead to the onset of heart disease/cancer.

In a case such as this - with an older cat and severe signs leading to complete loss of appetite - additional testing such as a belly ultrasound should be considered.

This will give you a much better idea of possible underlying causes.

If that is not possible due to financial concerns, you can ask your veterinarian for a medication to stimulate the appetite, such as Cyproheptadine (CLICK HERE)

I hope the above information helps and guides you.
