I have received your question regarding the power issue on the Acer Aspire 5050 laptop.
Since the connection is loose and can be lost easily, it suggests to me that the power charger is the faulty part here.
Since the battery is brand new, there is no reason it shouldn't be charging. The only thing preventing it from charging at this point would be the AC adapter.
I have located a 3rd party brand AC adapter for your model laptop.
