Question

my wife was walking our three dogs down the street. She was conversing with a neighbor. My wife was standing in the street and all three dogs were on a leash when the neighbor abruptly reached down and ruffled the heads of two of the dogs. One of the dogs bit her on her right hand. It did break the skin. Yesterday she brought us a dr.'s bill for $115 and she said she would bring her medication bill by today. What is your advice to us. We do not know these people very well.

Optional Information

State/Country relating to Question: Louisiana

Already Tried:
We haven't done anything yet. We are considering having her sign a release from further liability and paying her bills. We are concerned that paying her is an admission of guilt. She initiated contact with the dogs and she did not ask if they bite or if she could pet them.

Accepted Answer

If she is willing to sign a release from any and all liability in exchange for you paying her doctor and medication bills, then you should definitely do that as it will insulate you from any further legal liability down the road. Otherwise, paying her bills now cannot be used against you as an admission of guilt so you can pay her bills now without fear of ramifications, it can be considered a good-will gesture.
