Accepted Answer

Dear Louis,

I am sorry your boy is not feeling well. My own cat got sick from a tainted can of Fancy feast so discard aby cans with the same lot number.

Get a box of infant rice cereal and add one tablespoon to canned food - feed until the stool is normal for 48 hours.

If it continues Ii would do a T 4 test for hyperthyroid as that sometimes affects cats his age.

Please let me know how he is doing.

I hope he is better very soon.

Warmest best wishes,

Terri

Answer

Hi Lou,

I am sorry your boy still has diarrhea.

In a cat his age we may be looking at hyperthyroid. This disorder releases too much hormone innto the bloodstream and can cause diarrhea.

The flagyl should be clearing it up.

If both kitties have diarrhea, I suspect the food.

Lets see if they will eat some baby food with the rice cereal to rest their tummies:

human baby food in meat flavours (check that there are no onions or garlic in the ingredients) and mix that with warm water and offer that, or syringe it in little bits into your cat's mouth. Beech Nut makes a line of baby food that has nothing but meat (beef, chicken, turkey or veal) in it. Here's a link: http://www.beechnut.com/Our%20Baby%20Food/Results.asp If you cannot find this, you could find another meat baby food - just read the label carefully to be sure there are no onions, onion powder, garlic, or garlic powder in it.

These brands below, are well-recommended and contain nothing artificial, plus, contain meat as the first, or within the first three ingredients:

Wellness (http://www.oldmotherhubbard.com/

Felidae (http://www.canidae.com/

Innova (http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=inn-home

Newman's Own Organics (http://www.newmansownorganics.com/pet/home/

Natural Balance (http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com/catformulas/NB_CatCanned.html

They do need the pedialyte to keep them hydrated.

The next step is to see a feline only vet.

Good luck and let me know what happens,

Terri

Thank you, one more question if they do have a bad bacteria what will be the test that I should aks for it

Posted by Terri Riba 9 days and 11 hours ago.

Answer

A simple stool analysis should uncover any bacteria.

Try one half tsp of plain yogurt every day and see if it clears up but I would change the food as well.

At least pull the fancy feast for now.
