Question

I have four cats in my house and have difficulty keeping the "cat odor" under control. The majority of the house has cartpet which is one of the problems with odor. The cats always use the litter boxes and I have never seen them spray or mark territory. What suggestions do you have to help control the odor in the house.

Already Tried:
Mop tile floors with Swifer or Mr. Clean mop pads, vacuum weekly, wash our (human) beds every two weeks, wash couch slip cover once a month, dry clean curtains once a year.

I use a clumping litter and clean the boxes out twice a day, once in the morning and again in the afternoon. About once or twice a week a clean the boxes and put in all fresh litter. I have a total of two boxes and keep them in the back laundry room. I have two male cats and two female cats all under the age of 2 years old (not for sure on age due to getting them from the Humane Society or rescued off the side of the road). All of my cats have been spayed and neutered. On nice days I try to leave open a couple of windows for fresh air.

I have six cats - all indoor with claws..and I live in Florida.

I use Fresh step scented litter and spray the carpet daily with Febreeze.

I too open the windows on nice days.

 

I find these things work like a charm to eliminate kitty odors.

How often do you completely change out the litter in your cat boxes? Is once a week enough for a complete litter change or should I do it more often? Is deep cleaning the carpet necessary if I vaccum once a week and start to use the Febreeze on a daily bases?

I only change it once a week as well. The fresh step has little scents that are release any time a cat steps on it.

 

I only clean the carpets every three months as it it not really necessary. I use a product that is made for pet owners made by oxyclean

 

 

I use Febreeze daily. All you have to do is spray it and the freshens the whole house.
