Answer

Can you please insert your Restore CD that came with the computer and restart your computer, then the installation CD should load, try to do a startup repair.

Let me know,

Thanks!

I dont think it came with one. I think I was prompted to make one and dont think I ever did

Answer

Ok, most likely something with your startup files has been corrupted.

To reach the recovery partition, you must press F11 immediately when the computer turns on, and keep pressing it (one second apart) until the Recovery manager comes up. If this does not work, you will have to order Recovery CD's from HP, in order to recover the system. I can also help you once you recieve your recovery CD.

Let me know if you have any other questions, otherwise please click ACCEPT.

Thanks,

Ryan

So if I know someone who has a recovery disk for Vista I can use theirs. Or can I make one from my lap top it is a compaq on XP

Well, you can use another disk to start the installation process, then you can choose to do a "Startup" repair. Which will allow you to repair these files.

First, can you press F8 when the computer starts and let me know if you have any options?

Nope it did nothing

Accepted Answer

Ok, then yes, find a Vista CD or order your recovery CD's and then do a startup repair. You can also do a full re-installation with these disks but that is last resort.
