Hello,

Sometimes this can be caused to permissions being broken on the file system. Let's repair these:

  1. Put your Mac OS X install disc 1 (or DVD) into the optical dirve.
  2. Reboot the computer
  3. Immediately begin to hold down the C key on the key board, don't let go until you see the gray Apple logo.
  4. It should be booting off of the disc at this point, which may take a few minutes.
  5. You should eventually see a "Welcome to Mac OS X Installer" window.
  6. Ignore everything
  7. Go to the "Utility" menu and click Disk Utility
  8. Disk Utility will open, on the left hand side, select your hard drive. Then click "Repair Permissions." (Note: This could take a while)
  9. Once it is done, restart the machine.
  10. Let it boot up normally this time and see if it goes past the grey screen.

Keep me updated,
Brandon
