Info Request

Hello. Thanks for writing in. How often has she vomited? When did it start? What is her weight? Has she had any vaccines or fecal exams? Any diarrhea? How is her appetite?

Thanks for the information. At 6 weeks of age, she may have had her first set of vaccines, but she still needs boosters every 3 weeks until she has 2 boosters after 12 weeks of age. My biggest concerns with a vomiting puppy is intestinal parasites and parvo virus. There are other viral and bacterial concerns, and foreign body ingestion is possible in a puppy, but parvo and parasites are most common. It may even be something she ate. They are not fully protected against parvo until they have gone through their full series of vaccines. With a chihuahua puppy this age, I always get concerned about dehydration or hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) with multiple times vomiting. There isn't really anything I recommend giving for her vomiting. You can use Pepto Bismol in dogs, but I would be concerned about using it on her. It shouldn't be used with any possible gastrointestinal ulcerative disease either. If her appetite and activity is good and she does not have any diarrhea, you can watch her tonight. But, if the vomiting continues, she develops diarrhea or bloody stool, or she gets weak; I would have her seen by your nearest emergency vet tonight. Like I said, these small puppies do not compensate well for dehydration and develop hypoglycemia very easily. Please let me know if you have any other questions. Hope this helps.
