Optional Information

Year: 1999
Make: Porsche
Model: Boxster
Engine: 2.5L

Already Tried:
I have a 99 boxster and the engine failed. I found a used engine that has approx. 25-30K miles on it and is a 1999 2.5L engine that I should be able to swap out into my vehcile. I'm told that the compression test of the cylinders is 170 across all cylinders and a leak test was performed with zero (0) leakage. I understand that all these engines were suspetable to failure and that the ave mileage before failure was between 50K-70K miles. Is this true? Does 25K-30K miles on a used engine with a compression test of 170 on all cyclinders sound reasonable? Is some specific things I should be looking for? Thanks Jeff

Hello XXXXXX, it has been common for this engine to not last very long. I have seen many engines fail at less than 70,000 miles. Most of these had one thing in common. They did not have all of the services done as necessary. On this Porsche engine you need to be cinitantly on top of oil changes. You need to also watch out for oil leaks. This engine is prone to leaking oil. It can beging to leak oil fast enough to cause engine damage. Other than these this engine should last 100,000 miles. This engine you are looking at sounds good but I would make sure that there is a warranty with it.
