I have a 1998 olds 88 with a 3800 V6 in it and it is knocking really bad. My friend has a 1990 Toronado that allso has a 3800 V6 in it and he said I can have the motor if I wanted it. Will the motor out of the Toroado work in my olds 88? I know the intakes are way different but I wasnt quite sure if the blocks would interchange or not.

My intake and heads are good. I would mainly be using the lower part of his motor with my heads and intake. Whats the difference in the blocks that would make it not work? I found a few motors that would work for sure around my area but I dont have allot of money to play with. Im raisen twin 2 year olds and going back to school. The toronado motor was free thats why I was kinda wanting to make it work.

My interchange doesn't say exactly what is different, just that they don't directly interchange. I may be able to find you a cheap block if you can supply your zipcode.

AWE Salvage USA-IA(Traer) XXX-XXX-XXXX / 1-877-772-2014 has a complete engine for $200.00 and they have a core engine for $100.00 that might have a good block

Sandhill Auto Salvage USA-IA(Tama) 1-800-542-7880 has several complete engines starting at $300.00

I would stick with one of the complete engines. By the time you buy gaskets and supplies to change the heads over to a core block you won't be saving any money.
