Question

I have a daughter who lives in Ohio. She is 38yrs old, married with 3 children. 4years ago she had a pacemaker put in in Columbus, Ohio. Her family has no insurance. Her husband is a minister, pastoring a church. Financially, they cannot afford the ins. She is having back and leg pain, with inability to walk up and down stairs. The doctor she visited attributed it to her ovulation/menstrual cycle. The doctor wanted her to go on birth control pills. However, one of the things she was told after the pacemaker was NOT to do the pill. I live in Iowa, but would appreciate some general info as to the kind of physician that she needs to go to--interists, orthopedist, ob/gyn ??? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Welcome to Just Answer and thanks for your question. The first person she needs is an internal medicine or general practitioner who can do some basic tests. At that point she may be referred to a specialist depending on what the physician finds. There is a list of free clinics in the links below. I hope she will find one in the links, or perhaps she knows of others in her town.

Will the free clinics do complete testing, even if there is no insurance? She went to one clinic but the doctor would not refer her on because of the insurance.

Accepted Answer

Free clinics are there specifically for people with no insurance. She will get the same treatment that she would at a private doctor's office. Many free clinics refer to specialists at large public tax-supported hospitals where some charity care is done. Others will refer to specialists who will allow payment over time to accomodate those who don't have insurance.
