Question

Is this normal. I have two bumps inside my mouth and I think it is where I had two dental block injections before lip lines injected with radiesse. One on right side is bigger. This was done about 9 days ago but just noticed it

Info Request

Hi there

Are these bumps painful? Are they bleeding?

No, they are not bleeing or painful they just are there and they were not there before. I just noticed them but the one on the right is bigger. I am willing to pay more than $18 but last time I was here my credit card was charged too many times. Please answer my question and will leave a tip

Did you get my reply? They appear to be from the dental block since they are on both sides but right side is bigger?

Answer

Ok, thanks.

Sounds like you might be having a local reaction to the anesthetic that was used during the numbing process. I would suggest that you use a warm, salty gargle for a few days (1 teaspoon of salt mixed with 12 oz of warm water) and you can use this 5-6 times per day. Also, you can take some Advil to help with the inflammation.

If these areas start to bleed or become sore, you might need to be rechecked to rule out an abscess. You would need antibiotics for this.

Also, just for charting purposes, you might want to call the physician who did the procedure and let them know you had this type of reaction afterwards and they can put this in your chart in case it happens again, they might want to use a different drug or technique.

Have you heard of this before? I called the doctor's office and the nurse said she had a bump inside her mouth but it went away in a few days. I don't even know how long the bumps were there because they are very far down inside the mouth where the lip meets the gum line. I assume since there is one on the left and one the right but is bigger on the right, that is from the injection, is this right. I was just at the dentist two months ago and was screened for oral cancer. Thank you, would appreciate your thoughts on this.

Hi

Yes, I have heard of patients having small 'bumps' in their mouths after numbing injections....so yes, if since you have just had a procedure, I would say they are related. If you had not had anything done lately, I would say to go ahead and have your Dr take a look, but in your case, you can just watch them for a few more days and see if they resolve on their own. The oral mucosa is very delicate and sometimes the local reaction is swelling.

If your spots are not better or have decreased in size in 4-5 more days, or you develop new symptoms, you probably should go ahead and have them checked, but they will most likely resolve over time as the inflammation goes down.
