Question

So I have been having problems with irregular periods. I have been regular my whole life until March of this year. I D/C birth control pills in Feb. So my husband and I could try for a baby (in July). I had a normal period in Feb, March, and then not another one until June, then again in Sept. I have been taking ovulation test kits and I am not ovulating either. I went to the Dr. and they did blood work (thyroid, LH, FSH, etc) which all came back normal except my testosterone was slightly elevated at 73. They did an ultrasound and found 2 small para-ovarian cysts (1.5mm) on my left ovary. They have been re-ultrasounded and found to be stable (not changing). I guess I am just at a loss as to why all of a sudden my cycling is off and I can't get pregnant. Any other ideas on what could be going on?

Gender: Female
Age: 25

Already Tried:
Not on any medications. On daily prenatal vitamin. Current Dr. Sees no reason for medications with normal blood work. Also the reason for the blood work (to check for PSOS) was because my ovaries had multiple small follicles in them. Trying ovulation test kits (few months now) and have not detected an LH surge

Answer

Hello,

Welcome to Just Answer and thanks for your question. Both the slight increase in testosterone and the cysts can be having an effect on ovulation, even though the cysts are stable. I would suggest a visit with a fertility specialist for further workup, and perhaps medication to help you ovulate.

So do you think I can get help from a fertility specialist even though we have not been trying to conceive for a year yet?

Accepted Answer

I hope you will. Most people do get help. There are a lot of things that haven't been tried yet including medications to get you to ovulate, ovarian drilling (see link below), and many more. I do recommend that my patients who have been trying for a year see a specialist to have the very best help possible in trying to conceive.
