Answer

Hello,

Welcome to Just Answer and thanks for your question. I'm sorry they didn't explain to you that Tamiflu doesn't cure flu, it only lessens the severity and duration of the symptoms. No medication will work in just 24 hours. Taking antibiotics or antivirals is like putting the brakes on in your car. Although you slam on the brakes (take the medication), the car (the infection) will continue for quite a long distance before coming to a stop. Tamiflu just stops it faster and you don't hit your head on the steering wheel. You can take acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) to help with the fever and pain. Be sure to drink plenty of fluids since you will be losing a lot of water in the sweating portion of the hot-cold cycles.

Do you know how long the fever, body aches, hot/cold chills will last for (ie 3 days?) Also is it safe to take Tylenol while on Tamiflu?

Answer

Yes, it's quite safe to take Tylenol while on Tamiflu. Most people who have gotten H1N1 flu are out of work for about 5 days altogether. You don't want to return until you temperature has been normal for 24 hours.

Hi thank you for all your help. So the fever, chills, and sweats will last 5 days? Sorry if I've been a pain in your side.

Accepted Answer

You're not a pain Smile. You should gradually be getting better over those 5 days, so the fever and chills won't necessarily last that long. Usually the first 2-3 days are the worst.
