Question

A 5 month old kitten showed up on my doorstep a couple years ago and I took him to a vet to be checked out, etc. and decided to keep him. I hamed him Simon. He only likes me, he hides whenever any company comes, even people he knows. Lately he has been attacking a cat my friend has been bringing to my house for a year. There isn't any blood, but lots of tufts of Hank's hair. Hank is my friend's cat. Now my daughter and me are worried that Simon might attack my 2 year old granddaughter if she provokes him in some way. I've tried the Feliway with no luck. What should I do now? Everyone I know says to have him put to sleep which I really don't want to do. Linda

Has he ever shown any aggression towards a person, or does he just hide?

No he has never showed any agression toward any person or cat before now. With people he just hides.

Hi,

Just because he's attacking the other cat doesn't mean that he will start going after people as well. As long as your granddaughter doesn't corner him somewhere where he can't get away from her there's any reason to think he would bite her. (He may not even try to bite her if that does happen.) Attacking other cats and attacking people are usually not related issues. However if you are still really concerned about it shut Simon in a room when your granddaughter comes to visit so she can't go near him. Here is a link to a page about aggression in cats;

You might want to take him in for an exam and blood work sometime though. Sudden behavior changes (especially aggression) can be due to an underlying medical problem.
