Question

I recentley pulled out my CD player in my 2001 Montero Sport. When pulling it out I accidentley unplugged a wire which I believe is the power supply (not the bunched up wires in the plastic harness or the antenna). Because I unplugged the side that went into the cd player and the other side of the wire was unpluggeed it just fell down and I dont know where the other side went to. I pulled out most the dash but am unable to locate where this wire plugs into. Where does it go. thx

Would it be possible to take a picture of the wire?

If you have the basic system, you should only have a main connector (~14 pins) and an antenna.

If you have the amplified system (includes tweeters), you should have the main connector, two antenna wires, and a DIN cable (thicker, similar to coaxial cable).

the wire I am talking aout has pins in it similar to a s-video tv cable (circular connector with around 7 small pins in it)

Answer

That is the DIN cable that goes to the amplifier and/or cd changer if equipped.

Do I understand correctly that you have access to both ends of the cable?

Okay, normally this cable would be routed along the passenger side of the vehicle to the rear, where it attaches to either a changer or an amplifier.

Obviously this isn't the case in your instance, as you would not have both ends visibl at the radio. Is the cable rather long and taped up? What is the length of the cable?

thats the thing the cable is only about a foot long, and when I pulled it ou it had a piece of tape at the end like it had been tapped to the side or something.

Accepted Answer

It sounds as if it had been taped up out of the way. This is what the manufacture does with unused wiring during manufacture. When they determine if the vehicle is going to use a feature, they undo the wiring and install it. That way they do not have to have multiple harnesses.

I am concerned however that if it was plugged in, this may not be the case.

If you have the ampified system (8 speakers instead of 4) this would be the adapter harness to the amplifier.

Have you hooked the radio up to verify if you have audio or not? If your system is amplified, having the DIN cable unhooked will cut almost all audio out. If your audio works fine with it left out, you do not have the amplified system. And since you do not have a changer (the only other feature that uses the DIN), the cable would be unused.

Answer

You're welcome.... additional information, while looking at the parts catalog I did see that both with and without amplified systems have an adapter DIN that is about 20 inches long that hooks into the main DIN (about 12 foot) that is not installed on all vehicles, only ones with the amp.
