Hello and thanks for researching this very important question!

Baker's chocolate and other concentrated chocolate products (like cocoa powder or dark chocolate that are used in brownie mixes) do contain certain chemicals that can cause a number of toxic problems in pet dogs.

A lot of sugar likewise can cause digestive upset, can alter blood sugar levels, and possibly even cause the pancreas to become inflammed.

At a minimum, call your vet's office to find out what their recommendation is based on his overall health history. His increased thirst indicates that he is experiencing some kind of liver/kidney distress.

Toxic chemicals in chocolate can stay in a dog's body for up to 4 days. If he has a seizure or diarrhea that does not stop, please have him looked at by a qualified veterinarian right away.
