Question

My father died over a year ago and left me piece of property. For probate I a selling the property and because even though I haven't been with my husband for almost 2 yrs, they told me I had get his signature on the proerty. Here's my legal question, he and two of his friends pretended he had lawyer, this person contacted me to gain additional money from me for settlement of this property and even faxed me and had my mother them information to a private fax line, and we only have cell no. for his "attorney" and hae discovered he has no license according to GA Bar Assoc. Is this an offense that can be prosecuted, falsely claiming to be an attorney for extortion of more money.

Hello -

Thank you for contacting JustAnswer.

I would be happy to assist you, but I need additional information.

1. Did the "attorney" actually convince you to give more money?

Thanks,

Michael

Yes, initally he asked for a 1500.00 fee but when I said no and I would let the property sit, after five days the so-called attorney asked if I would pay 750. and I agreed, because I need to seel and we haven't had many offers.

Thanks for your response.

In essence, this man stole your money. Go to your local police station and explain the facts of the situation, and they will decide on the charge. Any way you look at it, this man deceived you out of money and has therefore perpetrated a criminal act.

If the prosecutor refuses to prosecute for some reason, you could also think about filing a civil suit against this man alleging his fraud and asking to be reimbursed for the money that he "stole" from you.

Hope this helps,
