Question

i am a 43 yr old male who has cirhossis of the liver. i was diag. w/ hep c in 1989 and was on interferon(rebetron)and riboviran off and on since then. hep c is now "cured", as of 2004, but the cirhossis has advanced on regardless of treatments. my question is...i have severe pain on the left side of my chest(right at the bottom of my ribcage)at times. it feels like "something's being "squeezed" by a hand and takes my breath away. my upper abdomen always hurts but this one spot is getting progressively worse. can u tell me what organs are located in that area..i.e. pancreas/spleen???? i only see my g.i. doc once a yr. and all thet do is give me pain meds. i realize the i have the awful long term effects of the inteferon but is that causing it? thanks for any help u can give/info.

Answer

The organs present in that part are - stomach, spleen, pancreas, transverse colon and left lobe of liver.

thanks for the quick response. i just can't seem to get a straight answer from my "liver" dr. or my g.p. ok, so where do i go from here? just keep popping those awful pills and deal with it or force the issue with my Gastro inter? thanks again. just frustrated/can't do anything w/out hurting and hate my 13 yr old daughter to keep seeing me get worse. take care/happy holidays and thanks again.

Accepted Answer

The next step is to have ultrasound scan of the abdomen done to see if there is any mass lesion in the liver.
