Hi,

While traditionally, the most popular time for kittens to be born are in the Spring and late Summer, unneutered stray cats are able to mate at any time, so there will always be a significant number of unwanted kittens being born at various times of the year. Among wild cats, the time of birth depends upon the kind of cat and the climate of the area. Domestic cats in the tropics may have kittens at different times from those in northern climates. In the United States, most mothers have two litters a year, and kittens are born in the spring or late summer. If you notice a larger influx of kittens at this time of year, there may have been an unusual fluctuation in the weather patterns/temperatures, and females were becoming pregnant later, deviating from the norm.

Bless you for the wonderful work you do and good luck at the Shelter!

Cher

Thanks for your response. We are overloaded with kittens at a time of year when we usually have none to adopt out although the demand continues. The reason seemed likely to be the weather but that felt a little too obvious since we are in November and it is 80 degrees out. A little scary to think this is increasing the stray load on shelters. We put down too many as it is. I will pass the word of what we may have to look forward to.

Answer

Hello again, and you're most welcome. Thanks very much for your accept and your reply.

Yes, the warmer weather has a lot to do with it, and being prepared is always best, so passing the word is a wonderful thing you can do, to prepare the other shelters in your area.

Keep up the great work, and much good luck to you!
