He anxious and stressed by this occurrence, and it may take a while for him to regain his confidence and feel like himself again. If he's reluctant to get in the car, because he associates it with this unfortunate incident, try coaxing him with toys or healthy treats, just when the car is in the driveway and you're not preparing to go anywhere; you can throw a favorite toy into the car, have him go after it, and then he gets out, and you repeat the action again.. 'Desensitizing' him to the car in this way, should help, if he only associates it with pleasurable activities.
