Info Request

Hello XXXXXX, does the rattling occur all of te time? How many miles are on the engine? DOes the noise change when you rev the engine?

It does occur all the time. I have 108,000 miles on my truck. It does rattle when you rev just not as loud.

Accepted Answer

Okay. I would start by removing the engine drive belt and running the engine to see if the noise goes away. If it does then the noise is in one of the pullies. This is typically in the water pump or tensioner. You would need to spin each pully by hand to check it. If the noise is still there then it may be in the exhaust or in the timing chain. You will need to see if the noise is coming from the front of the engine or near the exhaust.
