hi
it is still possible for you to get a first offender deferred sentence, with at least 1 to 3 years probation, community service and if your stealing is related to drug abuse a mandate to attend a substance abuse treatment center would be appropriate.
what you might consider, if it is drug use related, is to enroll into a program before any court dates - that way you can show good faith to the court. admitting that you have a problem and wanting to take care of it is important.
you need to tell your attorney about the new charge and let him decide if he wants to tell the court at your first hearing on stealing from the grandparents. he does not have to reveal it unless asked if there are any pending charges. you are a typical drug addict scenario. courts see this all the time and really will work to keep you out of jail because you are a non-violent offender. now, if you robbed or attempted to rob a stranger on the street, the situation would be viewed differently. but as it stands, i believe the court on the walmart matter would allow a probation, if you are in treatment .
